UBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> Our True Sons

One of the goals of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War includes the locating, physical examination of, and recording of all memorials dedicated to Union Civil War soldiers and sailors (outside the care of the National Military Parks, and the U.S. Departments of Defense, or Veterans Affairs) in the boundaries of the Camp. This includes all sizes of monuments (with or without sculpture), those with Civil War era cannon and inert ammunition, memorial fountains, memorial buildings, memorial windows (stained glass), historical markers, and even small plaques. The boundaries of the General John A. Logan Camp No. 1 include the counties of Kent, Ottawa, and Montcalm.

Below is a partial list of the Civil War memorials we have located to date. If you are aware of any other Civil War memorials in Kent, Ottawa and Montcalm counties, we’d appreciate any more information you might share.

During times when our restoration funds were coming in slowly and we are between fundraising events, we located, researched, cleaned or had professionally cleaned, and restored the following Civil War memorials.

With close to 40 memorials still on our “To Do” list, we will be busy for years to come.
